FAQ

Questions people ask before their first visit

What's the difference between psychiatric
care and therapy?

Psychiatric care focuses on evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management from a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner. Therapy is talk-based treatment with a licensed clinician. Many patients benefit from both together, and our team can coordinate the two as part of one plan.

Can I schedule a therapy-only appointment?

Therapy availability is currently limited and is generally offered as part of coordinated care for established Clearwave patients. Contact our team for current availability.

Do I need a referral to start psychiatric care?

No referral is needed. You can get started by completing our New Patient Registration Form. Once submitted, you'll be able to schedule your virtual intake assessment.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first visit is an intake assessment. Your provider will review your history and symptoms, answer your questions, and work with you to build a treatment plan that meets your needs and works around your schedule.

How often will I need appointments?

Treatment frequency varies, but generally patients are seen monthly. Your provider will decide on the schedule right for you.

How long does it take to see results
from medication?

Everyone responds differently. Many medications take several weeks to reach their full effect, and your provider will monitor your progress closely and adjust your plan as needed.
